Meetings are held at the Homewood Public Library, 17917 Dixie Highway, Homewood, Illinois 60430
2nd Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM (except June, July, and August)
Meetings are free and open to the public.
September 12. “Solar Winds”. Former Homewood and Flossmoor resident Dr. Eugene Parker will discuss, in a PowerPoint presentation, his proven concept of solar winds and the the August 12, 2018, launch of NASA’s Parker Solar Probe toward the sun’s atmosphere.
October 10. Abe, Mary, and Robert Todd: The Lincoln Family Legacy. Author, Chicago speaker, and tour guide Dave Clark explores not just the enormous impact of Abraham Lincoln on the history of Illinois, but also the often-overlooked contributions of his wife and oldest son.
November 14. Homewood Public Works. John Schaefer, Director of Public Works, will tell us about all the important services Public Works performs throughout the year, in good or bad weather, to ensure that the Village continues to run smoothly.
December 12. A Musical Interlude. Beth Ann Hostert will entertain with some favorite musical selections.
January 9. Homewood Then and Now. Lifelong resident, current HHS president, and author Jim Wright will present an audiovisual program showing how familiar buildings and locations in Homewood have changed over the years.
February 13. Homewood Village Attorney Chris Cummings. Chris Cummings has interesting tales to tell about his background, as well as his service as Village Attorney and as a colonel from the Judge Advocate General Corps of the U.S. Army Reserve.
March 13. Searching for Marquette. Art historian and educator Ruth Nelson will tell the story of the 17th century French Jesuit missionary and explorer Jacques Marquette through the many works of art and monuments dedicated in his honor, which reflect his enormous impact upon what is today the State of Illinois
April 10. Updates on the underground Railroad South of Chicago. Dr. Larry McClellan will look at new underground railroad stories with developments in the Little Calumet River area, Crete, and Lockport
May 8. Annual Meeting. Annual Reports will be presented, 2019-2020 officers installed, and volunteer of the year named, followed by a social hour and refreshments.
